Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Moves To Washington After San Francisco Meetings
Bhupendra Patel heads to Washington after San Francisco tech meetings.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday concluded the San Francisco leg of his US visit and departed for Washington, D.C., as part of the state's international outreach ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027. The delegation is seeking to attract investment and strengthen partnerships with technology companies, investors and industry leaders. Before leaving San Francisco, Patel and members of the delegation visited the Consulate General of India, where Consul General Dr K. Srikar Reddy received them.
Patel began his US visit in San Francisco on August 17, where he met members of the Gujarati diaspora and engaged with leaders from the technology and investment sectors. The delegation's San Francisco programme included round-table discussions and one-to-one meetings with more than 100 representatives from the semiconductor and technology industries. Discussions covered sectors including Artificial Intelligence, DeepTech, EdTech, HealthTech and gaming, with a focus on investment, research, innovation, skilling and business collaboration.
During the meetings, Patel presented Gujarat as more than an investment destination, positioning the state as a potential long-term partner for technology development, innovation and supply-chain expansion. He invited global companies and industry leaders to participate in Vibrant Gujarat 2027 and explore business-to-business and business-to-government opportunities. The Chief Minister also discussed the possibility of combining Silicon Valley's technology capabilities with Gujarat's industrial base to support research, manufacturing and global expansion.

The delegation's discussions also covered emerging technologies such as generative AI, robotics and large language models, along with applications in education and healthcare. Gaming opportunities were discussed in the context of developing a supporting ecosystem through policy, innovation and industry participation, including opportunities linked to the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Gujarat. Patel also outlined the state's efforts to create an ecosystem providing infrastructure, connectivity, capital, talent and policy support for technology-led investment.
The San Francisco engagements form part of Gujarat's broader effort to strengthen its position in semiconductors and advanced technologies. The state has been promoting its industrial infrastructure, policy framework and manufacturing capabilities to international investors while seeking to build an ecosystem around semiconductor production and related industries. Chief Secretary M.K. Das, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries and Mines Department Mamta Verma and other senior officials are accompanying Patel on the overseas visit.
The delegation will now continue its engagements in Washington, D.C., before planned meetings in New York and a subsequent visit to Toronto, Canada. The schedule includes round-table conferences and one-to-one meetings with investors, emerging technology leaders and members of the Gujarati community. The Washington leg will continue Gujarat's investment outreach as the state prepares for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027, scheduled for January next year.
