CM Vijay Responds To DMK Remarks, Defends Governance And Social Justice Record
Vijay responds to DMK, defending governance and social justice record.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday launched a sharp counterattack against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the State Assembly, firmly rejecting allegations that his government functioned as a “B-team” of any political formation and asserting that his administration derives its legitimacy solely from the people’s mandate.
Replying to the motion of thanks on the Governor’s Address on the final day of the Assembly session, Vijay defended his government’s performance across key sectors including law and order, education, governance, and social justice. He also accused the previous DMK administration of leaving behind unresolved challenges, particularly in areas related to public safety and administrative efficiency.
Raising concerns over law and order, the Chief Minister said the government was open to constructive criticism but questioned the opposition’s record in dealing with narcotics-related offences. He alleged that the drug menace had expanded during the previous regime and said his government was taking firm steps to address the issue and restore public confidence in policing and enforcement systems.

Vijay also responded sharply to repeated opposition demands that he speak more frequently in the House, remarking that even brief interventions from him appeared to cause political turbulence. The comment was widely interpreted as a reference to DMK leadership and drew strong reactions from both ruling and opposition benches during the proceedings.
On Centre-State relations, he said his government would maintain a balanced and pragmatic approach, working cooperatively with the Union government while continuing to oppose the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the National Education Policy (NEP). He reiterated that Tamil Nadu would continue to support admissions based on Class 12 performance, arguing that it better reflects students’ academic abilities.
Defending his government’s composition, Vijay highlighted representation for women and Scheduled Castes in his cabinet, stating that his administration was committed to advancing the principles of social justice inspired by Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He also challenged the DMK’s stance on similar issues, asserting that the current government had taken more concrete steps toward inclusive governance.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister dismissed claims that the TVK government relied on external political support, stating that allied parties such as the CPI and CPI(M) had chosen to extend support independently. He described his administration as a “people’s team” and reiterated its commitment to transparency, anti-corruption measures, and accountability in public spending, ending his speech with remarks that prompted strong exchanges in the House.
