#BreakingNews: WWII-Era Bomb Found In Assam Village, Army Safely Defuses Device
A WWII-era unexploded bomb discovered in a populated Assam village was safely defused by an Indian Army disposal team.
A World War II-era unexploded bomb created panic in the Ledo-Lekhapani area of Assam after it was discovered inside a residential locality in Tinsukia district. The alarming find prompted an immediate emergency response from local authorities and the Indian Army, as residents feared the decades-old device could still be active and dangerous.
Officials said the rusted explosive device measured nearly 12 inches in length and around 6 inches in diameter. It was reportedly found in a populated area, increasing the risk to nearby homes and families. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the army quickly dispatched a specialised bomb disposal unit to handle the operation with maximum caution.
After reaching the site, personnel from the army's Red Shield Sappers cordoned off the surrounding area and evacuated residents from the immediate danger zone. Strict safety protocols were enforced while experts examined the device and prepared it for removal. The swift action helped prevent panic from spreading further and ensured civilians remained at a safe distance throughout the operation.

The bomb was later safely transported and defused without causing any damage, injury or loss of life. Officials described the mission as highly coordinated and professionally executed, highlighting the expertise of the disposal team in handling a potentially deadly wartime explosive in a crowded civilian area.
Unexploded ordnance from the World War II period is occasionally discovered in parts of Northeast India because of the region’s historical military significance during the war. Authorities have urged residents to immediately report any suspicious metallic objects or explosive-looking materials instead of touching or moving them on their own.
