Air India Express Announces 20 Daily Services from Navi Mumbai Airport to 15 Cities
Low-cost carrier to kick off operations at the new Navi Mumbai International Airport, with plans to ramp up to 55 daily flights by mid-2026.
The Air India group announced on Tuesday that its low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express, will launch commercial flights from the much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), starting with 20 daily departures to over 15 domestic cities in the initial phase.
This rollout marks a significant boost for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with operations set to scale up to 55 daily departures—including five international routes—by mid-2026. The group further aims to expand to 60 daily flights (120 Air Traffic Movements) by winter 2026, enhancing seamless connections for both passengers and cargo.
Jointly developed by the Adani Group and Maharashtra's City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), NMIA is slated for inauguration later this month. The greenfield project will be constructed in five phases, with the first phase designed to handle 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 0.5 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo. At full capacity, it will support 90 MPPA and 3.2 MMT of cargo annually.

Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We look forward to commencing operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport. We are happy to work with Adani Airports to build NMIA not only as a point that connects to the rest of India, but also as one of the country's key global transit hubs for both—passengers and cargo—given its strategic geographical location."
The initial schedule will feature 20 daily departures (40 ATMs) linking NMIA to 15 Indian cities, significantly improving regional connectivity and enabling efficient international transit through the airport.
Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., highlighted the transformative potential of this collaboration. "This partnership will redefine Mumbai's connectivity landscape and strengthen India's twin-airport strategy. NMIA's adoption of technology for enhancing efficiency and best-in-class experience for passengers will play a pivotal role in delivering seamless and superior passenger journeys for decades to come."
With its prime location and advanced infrastructure, NMIA is poised to alleviate congestion at Mumbai's existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while positioning the region as a vital gateway for domestic and global travel.
