US Warns: Reconsider Trips to Bahrain, Qatar Due to Armed Threats

State Dept authorizes non-emergency US personnel departure from Bahrain, Qatar over terrorism, missile risks post-US Iran operations.

The United States has elevated its travel advisories for Bahrain and Qatar to Level 3, urging citizens to "reconsider travel" due to escalating risks from the ongoing Iran conflict.

The State Department updated Bahrain's advisory on February 28, 2026, authorizing non-emergency US government personnel and families to depart amid threats of terrorism, armed conflict, drone, and missile attacks from Iran. Qatar's advisory rose from Level 1 to Level 3 on March 1, citing similar dangers including disruptions to commercial flights and FAA-issued restrictions on civil aviation in the region.

These Gulf states, hosting key US military assets like the Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, face heightened vulnerability following US strikes that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A broader "Worldwide Caution" was issued on February 28, warning Americans globally of potential disruptions from airspace closures and regional instability sparked by the US-Iran hostilities. Kuwait also received a Level 3 advisory, with additional local risks like crime in certain areas and unexploded ordnance near Iraq. Travelers are advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, monitor local media, and prepare contingency plans.

The advisories reflect fears of Iranian retaliation, with Tehran launching missiles toward US bases and Israel after the February 28 strikes, whose footage was recently released by US CENTCOM. Bahrain and Qatar, central to US operations, now grapple with terror plots and sudden military tensions.

India monitors the crisis closely, balancing ties with Iran, Israel, and Gulf partners, as global calls for de-escalation intensify amid market volatility and evacuation preparations. US citizens in the region are urged to exercise extreme caution as the conflict risks wider spillover.
