J&K CM Omar Abdullah opens Srinagar Tulip Garden, welcoming visitors to Asia’s largest spring bloom.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated the Srinagar Tulip Garden, officially opening the valley’s largest tulip park to visitors and marking the start of the spring tourism season in Kashmir.
Known as the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, the garden is located at the foothills of the Zabarwan range, overlooking Dal Lake, and draws thousands of tourists and locals every year to witness its vibrant floral display. This year, the garden features more than 1.8 million tulips alongside a range of other spring blooms, including hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and ranunculus, spanning 70–75 varieties.
The 74-acre garden includes 46 imported flower varieties from the Netherlands, with enhanced visitor amenities such as online ticketing and improved facilities to manage the expected crowd during peak bloom. The garden typically remains in full bloom for three to four weeks, offering a spectacular visual experience for nature lovers and photographers alike.

Authorities have made extensive arrangements to handle the anticipated influx of visitors, including transport and parking facilities, security deployment, and other logistical support to ensure a smooth experience. The tulip festival, a highlight of the season, is expected to be held in early April when the flowers reach their peak bloom.
This year, the garden opened earlier than usual due to unseasonably high temperatures in February, prompting an early blossoming of the tulips. The opening is widely seen as a boost to spring tourism in the valley, which attracts visitors from across India and abroad.
Officials hope the event will promote Kashmir’s natural beauty and encourage tourism, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a major spring destination while providing a colorful spectacle for locals and travelers alike.
