Pune Woman Shares Air India’s Halwa Puri Channa Meal On Bali Flight

Social media users praised Air India for serving traditional Indian comfort food on an international flight.

A woman from Pune has gone viral on social media after sharing her surprise at being served a traditional Indian meal of halwa, puri, and channa aboard an Air India flight from Delhi to Bali. The unusual in-flight menu item sparked widespread discussion online, with many users describing the combination as both nostalgic and uniquely Indian.

The passenger, identified as Priti Jain, posted about the experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she said the meal was one of the most unexpected airline food experiences she had encountered. In her post, Jain joked that she was likely the “first in my bloodline and probably even my entire friend biradari” to receive halwa, puri, and channa during a flight. She added that while her husband avoided the meal because he did not enjoy cold puris, she happily finished both trays herself.

The post quickly gained traction online, attracting more than 60,000 views and prompting a flood of reactions from social media users. Many users praised the airline for serving what they described as “comfort food in the sky,” while others said they would have welcomed such a meal on international routes. Several commenters referred to the combination as an “elite combo,” highlighting the emotional connection many Indians have with the traditional dish.

Halwa, puri, and channa are commonly associated with festive occasions, religious gatherings, temple prasad, and popular North Indian breakfast spreads. Their appearance on an international flight surprised many internet users, particularly because international airlines often rely on Western-style breakfast options such as pastries, eggs, and sandwiches. For many commenters, the meal represented a rare attempt to showcase authentic Indian flavors during air travel.

Some users also shared similar experiences of receiving traditional Indian meals on other Air India flights, including routes connecting Delhi and Dubai. Others suggested that airlines should incorporate more regional Indian cuisine into their menus, especially on long-haul international flights where passengers often seek familiar comfort food. The discussion also led to humorous reactions centered around Jain’s husband missing out on what users described as a memorable culinary experience.

The viral post comes at a time when Air India has been working to reshape its brand image and improve passenger experience following its acquisition by the Tata Group. While airline food is often criticized by travelers, the overwhelmingly positive response to the halwa puri channa meal demonstrated how culturally familiar dishes can resonate strongly with passengers and generate unexpected goodwill online.
