Passengers Rave About Comfort and Speed on Maiden Vande Bharat Sleeper Journey
Passengers express thrill over cleanliness, safety features, and faster travel on India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train.
The Railways launched the first Vande Bharat sleeper train connecting Assam and West Bengal, offering a faster, safer, and more comfortable option for passengers traveling between Guwahati and Howrah. The service also directly links the revered Kamakhya Devi Temple in Assam with Kolkata’s iconic Kalighat Temple, boosting both pilgrimage travel and tourism.
Passengers on the inaugural journey expressed excitement over upgraded amenities, enhanced safety features, and reduced travel time. The train, which completes the 966 km journey in around 14 hours—three hours less than the current fastest train, Saraighat Express—offers a modern overnight travel experience with well-maintained coaches, camera surveillance, and automatic doors for passenger safety.
Vikash Majumdar, a first-time train attendant from Assam, described the journey as a dream start to his career. “It is beyond imagination that my first job would begin on the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train. I am determined to serve passengers and maintain cleanliness and safety in the coach,” he said, highlighting the premium service standards.

Students and travelers also praised the train’s comfort and security. Nandini Das, a student and aspiring Air Force officer, appreciated camera surveillance and automatic doors, noting that these features make solo travel, especially for women, safer and more reassuring. Other passengers commented on the cleanliness, upgraded interiors, and smooth ride.
Local residents and tourists welcomed the improved connectivity, emphasizing the economic and tourism benefits. Pradeep Chand Sharma said, “This technologically advanced train connecting Assam and West Bengal will enhance religious tourism and reduce travel time, making journeys more comfortable for passengers.”
The Vande Bharat sleeper train is designed for modern overnight travel, focusing on comfort rather than mere transit. With its successful launch, the Railways has set a benchmark for high-speed, secure, and efficient long-distance train travel in eastern India, promising an upgraded experience for devotees, tourists, and daily commuters alike.
