No Rush to Disembark! 186 IndiGo Passengers Stay Seated in Unprecedented Display

Canadian Caleb Friesen, living in India for 8+ years, shares a video of unusually disciplined IndiGo passengers staying seated post-landing, seeing it as a fading scarcity mindset.

A Canadian influencer living in India has drawn widespread attention after praising passengers on an IndiGo flight for what he described as a rare and refreshing display of patience. Caleb Friesen, who has lived in the country for more than eight years, shared a video recounting how nearly all passengers remained seated after landing, defying the usual rush to disembark seen on many domestic flights.

The incident occurred during a flight from Mizoram to Kolkata, where Friesen noticed that none of the approximately 186 passengers stood up immediately after the aircraft landed. Even after the seatbelt sign was switched off, travellers stayed calmly in their seats, waiting their turn to exit. Friesen described the moment as something he had never witnessed before on an Indian flight.

In his video, the influencer humorously referred to the familiar stereotype of the “eager uncle”—a passenger who jumps up the moment the plane touches down, often prompting flight crew warnings. Friesen joked that he himself became that person on this flight, standing up out of habit, only to realise that everyone else remained seated, quietly and patiently.

Sharing the clip on social media platform X, Friesen used the moment to reflect on what he sees as a broader shift in India’s social behaviour. He suggested that as the country’s economy matures, a “scarcity mindset” is gradually giving way to a stronger civic sense, with more people showing patience and consideration in public spaces.

However, Friesen was careful to note that the change is not universal. He added that on his subsequent flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru, the familiar rush to stand and crowd the aisle returned. Still, the influencer said the earlier experience left a lasting impression, calling it a small but meaningful sign that “India is changing.”
