New Wolf Trail Spans 3,494 Km From Poland to Italy

A new long-distance hiking route spanning six European countries has been launched, offering adventure enthusiasts the opportunity to trek nearly 3,500 kilometres across diverse landscapes. Named the Wolf Trail, the route stretches approximately 3,494 kilometres from Poland's Baltic coast to the Italian city of Trieste, passing through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. Designed for experienced hikers, the trail is expected to become one of Europe's most ambitious long-distance walking routes.

According to reports, the Wolf Trail was created by outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin by linking together several existing long-distance hiking paths. Those attempting the entire journey should expect it to take between four and six months to complete, depending on their pace, weather conditions and rest days. The route is intended for seasoned trekkers seeking a physically demanding expedition rather than casual walkers.

The trail features more than 78,400 metres of cumulative elevation gain, a climb roughly equivalent to ascending Mount Everest nine times. Along the route, hikers pass through dense forests, mountain ranges, historic towns and scenic countryside, offering a diverse mix of natural and cultural attractions across Central and Southern Europe. The journey begins on Poland's Baltic coastline before concluding on Italy's Adriatic coast in Trieste.

The best period to undertake the Wolf Trail is between April and September, when snow has largely cleared from the Alpine sections, making the route safer and more accessible. Travelling during these months also helps hikers avoid the harsher weather conditions and heavy snowfall that typically arrive later in the year, particularly in high-altitude regions.

Tourism officials and organisers expect the new trail to attract long-distance hikers from around the world while boosting local economies along the route. Increased footfall is anticipated to benefit small towns and villages through higher demand for accommodation, food services and other tourism-related businesses. The Wolf Trail is expected to strengthen Europe's reputation as a leading destination for endurance hiking and outdoor adventure tourism.
