Kerala Proves Once Again Why it is Truly God's Own Country for Every Visitor

A foreign traveller’s recent visit to Kerala has gone viral on social media, as she praised the warmth and generosity of the state’s residents. Travel vlogger Maria Green, who arrived in India last month, shared an Instagram video titled “Kerala melts our hearts", highlighting a brief but memorable interaction with a local shopkeeper. The clip quickly resonated with viewers, showcasing the welcoming spirit that Kerala is known for.

In the video, Green detailed how a simple purchase of snacks turned into an unexpectedly kind gesture. She showed viewers the items she bought, including a coke, protein shakes, Oreos, and chips, and expressed amazement at the total cost of less than a euro. “They are just too kind here. Look at everything we got here,” she said, emphasising the affordability and thoughtfulness of the shopkeeper.

Green recounted how the shopkeeper went out of her way to offer extra chocolates when she could not find the exact change. “It was 95 cents. I gave them 100. They didn’t have change, so she just gave me these [chocolates],” she said. The gesture, she noted, reflected the generosity that made her trip especially memorable.

The vlogger also praised India more broadly, noting how the country offered a mix of chaos, surprises, and kindness. “India surprised us and gave us memories we’ll carry forever. From the chaos to the kindness, this trip was unforgettable, and leaving was harder than we expected,” Green said, highlighting the emotional impact of her travel experiences.

The video has gained widespread attention, amassing over 654,000 views and hundreds of comments. Social media users agreed with Green’s impressions, sharing similar experiences and encouraging others to explore Kerala. Many highlighted the friendly nature of local shopkeepers and the availability of affordable traditional snacks and drinks, further emphasising the state’s reputation as “God’s Own Country".
