IndiGo to Operate From All Delhi Airport Terminals from October 26

IndiGo will operate flights from Delhi Airport’s T1, T2, and T3 terminals starting October 26.

IndiGo, India's largest domestic carrier, announced on October 21, 2025, that it will begin operating flights from all three terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) starting October 26, following the reopening of the revamped Terminal 2 (T2). The move aims to optimise passenger flow and enhance operational efficiency at the bustling hub, which handles millions of travellers annually. Currently, all international flights operate exclusively from Terminal 3 (T3), while domestic services are split between T1 and T3. The reactivation of T2, which has undergone significant upgrades including modernised check-in areas, expanded security zones, and improved amenities, marks a key milestone in IGIA's post-pandemic infrastructure enhancements. This expansion allows IndiGo to distribute its extensive flight schedule more evenly, potentially reducing congestion and wait times for passengers.

Under the new arrangement, IndiGo has designated specific flight codes to each terminal for seamless navigation. Flights numbered 6E 2000 to 6E 2999 will utilise the revamped T2, primarily for select domestic routes. International departures, along with flights coded 6E 5000 to 6E 5999, will continue to operate from T3, ensuring continuity for global connectivity. All remaining domestic flights will be handled at T1, which caters to low-cost carriers and has seen increased traffic since its partial reopening in 2022 after renovations. IndiGo operates approximately 1,700 weekly flights from IGIA, contributing to its network of over 2,200 daily flights across 100+ destinations. This strategic redistribution reflects the airline's commitment to leveraging IGIA's full capacity, which exceeds 100 million passengers per year, amid surging air travel demand in India.

The reopening of T2 comes after a two-year refurbishment project costing over ₹1,300 crore, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility with automated baggage handling, enhanced retail spaces, and sustainable features like solar power integration. Previously operational until 2020 for international low-cost flights, T2's downtime allowed for seismic upgrades and digital innovations to meet growing volumes. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a consortium led by GMR Group, confirmed the terminal's readiness, projecting it to handle up to 40 million passengers annually once fully ramped up. For IndiGo, this means deploying resources across the airport's ecosystem, potentially freeing up slots at T3 for premium services. Passengers are advised to check flight-specific terminal details via the IndiGo app or website to avoid confusion during the transition.

This development underscores IGIA's evolution into one of Asia's busiest airports, supporting India's aviation boom driven by rising middle-class travel and economic recovery. By utilising all terminals, IndiGo not only streamlines its operations but also contributes to balanced load distribution, benefiting other airlines like Air India and SpiceJet that share the facility. As domestic air traffic rebounds to pre-COVID levels, such optimisations are crucial for maintaining service reliability and passenger satisfaction. With the festive season approaching, the timely rollout could alleviate peak-hour pressures, setting a positive tone for the winter schedule. Travellers can expect smoother experiences, though minor teething issues may arise initially as systems integrate.
