Delhi CM Flags Off Second Interstate Electric Bus Route, Linking Capital to Sonipat
CM Gupta flags off green interstate buses from Kashmere Gate.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched the capital’s second interstate electric bus service on Thursday morning, dispatching three modern, zero-emission buses from the Maharana Pratap Inter-State Bus Terminal at Kashmere Gate to Sonipat in Haryana. Operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the new route marks a significant step in reviving discontinued public transport corridors and reducing reliance on private operators that have long dominated cross-border travel.
Joined by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, the CM flagged off the fully air-conditioned buses, each equipped with advanced safety features including CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, real-time GPS tracking, and digital route information displays. The service will operate six trips daily in each direction, covering critical stops such as GTB Nagar, Azadpur Terminal, Jahangirpuri, Mukarba Chowk, Singhu Border, Kundli, Rai, and Bahalgarh before terminating at Sonipat bus stand.
This initiative follows the successful launch of the Delhi-Baraut electric interstate service just weeks ago during the Seva Pakhwada, and forms part of a strategic plan to restore and expand DTC’s regional network across the National Capital Region. Gupta emphasized that affordable, eco-friendly public transport is essential for reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and strengthening economic and social connectivity with neighboring states.

The Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to building a seamless, environmentally responsible transport system. “Restoring interstate connectivity through clean mobility is a priority for inclusive growth,” she said, adding that more NCR cities will soon be linked through similar electric bus services with dedicated infrastructure support.
With this launch, Delhi is not only expanding its electric mobility footprint but also setting a model for sustainable regional transport. The Sonipat service offers commuters safer, cleaner, and more affordable travel, reinforcing the vision of a greener and more connected National Capital Region.
