British Vlogger Hails Delhi Metro as Superior to London Underground in Viral Clip
Tourist praises Delhi’s Airport Express for its efficiency and clarity, sparking global comparisons.
The Delhi Metro, a vital lifeline for millions of daily commuters in India’s bustling capital, has earned unexpected international acclaim from British vlogger Islam Lewis, who declared it “way better” than London’s iconic Underground system. In a viral video titled Arriving in India was not what I expected, Lewis documented his seamless journey on the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line, sparking widespread online praise and comparisons to London’s transit network.
Lewis, arriving in New Delhi for the first time, rode the high-speed Orange Line from Indira Gandhi International Airport to New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS). His video captures a hassle-free experience, from purchasing a ticket at the counter to navigating the system with ease. “The metro in New Delhi is super clean, organized, and very tourist-friendly,” Lewis remarked, emphasizing the honesty of staff and the clarity of signage. “The London Underground, I find very confusing, even though it’s all in English. It’s mad to think this system is way better. I actually know where I’m going just from looking at the signs.”
The vlogger’s candid endorsement has resonated widely, amassing significant traction on social media platforms. Users echoed his sentiments, with one commenting, “This is 100 times better than London Underground, which is suffocating.” Another user noted, “I also experienced the London Underground—too expensive and noisy, except for the Elizabeth Line.” The praise aligns with a recent viral post by another passenger, who detailed reaching NDLS from the airport in under 40 minutes using the metro, highlighting its efficiency.

The Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line, connecting NDLS to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and recently extended to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25, has become a hallmark of modern urban transit in India. Its high-speed service, coupled with clean stations and clear navigation, has evidently impressed global visitors, positioning it as a standout alternative to pricier or less intuitive systems like London’s Underground.
As the video continues to circulate, it underscores the growing global recognition of India’s infrastructure advancements. The Delhi Metro’s ability to deliver a “smooth experience,” as Lewis described, not only serves its millions of daily riders but also leaves an indelible mark on international travelers, prompting renewed appreciation for the capital’s transit prowess.
