Blogger Sandhya Majji Flags Unhygienic Passenger Behaviour on Flights, Demands Accountability
Blogger Sandhya Majji slams passengers for leaving flights in appalling unhygienic conditions.
Travel blogger Sandhya Majji has sparked a widespread debate on passenger behaviour after raising concerns over poor hygiene practices on commercial flights. In a recent post, she highlighted what she described as a growing culture of “zero civic sense” among travellers, drawing attention to the challenges faced by cabin crew due to irresponsible conduct onboard aircraft.
Majji recounted witnessing disturbing conditions during a flight, including an aircraft lavatory left in an unhygienic state with urine on the floor and used tissues scattered around. She noted that a flight attendant had to clean the mess manually, expressing sympathy for the crew member. The incident, she said, reflects a broader issue of disregard for shared spaces and the people responsible for maintaining them.
While her observations were not limited to a single group, Majji mentioned that flights with a higher number of Indian passengers appeared to experience such issues more frequently. She compared one such experience to travelling on a poorly maintained public bus, underscoring the stark contrast with the expected standards of commercial aviation. Her remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with many users agreeing while others debated the generalisation.

The blogger also raised questions about accountability, particularly highlighting the role of passengers in supervising children and cleaning up after themselves. She pointed out that the issue is not confined to children alone, as many adults also leave behind litter and create avoidable messes during flights. According to her, such behaviour reflects a lack of basic civic responsibility among travellers.
Beyond discomfort and inconvenience, Majji emphasised the operational impact of such actions. She explained that unclean cabins can delay flight turnarounds, as airline staff must ensure cleanliness standards are met before the next departure. This, in turn, can affect schedules and create additional pressure on airline operations and staff.
Majji also defended the role of cabin crew, noting that they undergo rigorous training and are selected for their professionalism and service skills. She argued that cleaning up excessive mess caused by passengers should not be part of their responsibilities. Concluding her remarks, she urged travellers to adopt better hygiene practices and respect shared spaces, stressing that maintaining cleanliness is a basic duty of every passenger.
