Bengaluru Hotels Launch New Year Packages Under Strict Police Rules

Bengaluru hotels offer New Year packages with controlled celebrations amid strict police guidelines and lower city demand.

Bengaluru’s hotels and resorts have rolled out special New Year packages targeting families, groups, and short-stay tourists. Offers include one-night, two-day stays, meals, gala dinners, live DJ music, children’s play areas, bonfires, and limited fireworks where permitted. Prices range from Rs 9,500 to nearly Rs 1 lakh depending on property and inclusions, with early booking discounts widely promoted.

Industry representatives noted higher demand for resorts on the city outskirts compared to hotels in central business areas. GK Shetty, President of the Karnataka State Hotels Association, said Bengaluru faces lower occupancy this season as many residents travel out of the city between December 25 and January 3, affecting hotel revenue.

Tourist destinations like Mysuru, by contrast, are witnessing full occupancy. Shetty added that tighter police restrictions this year, including limits on large gatherings, have led many city residents to celebrate at home with takeaway meals rather than attending public events.

Bengaluru Police have issued around 30 guidelines for New Year’s Eve celebrations, covering pubs, clubs, bars, and restaurants. Establishments must close by 1 am on January 1, adhere to approved capacity limits, maintain CCTV, deploy security staff, ensure fire safety, and prohibit illegal parties, alcohol for minors, and sharp weapons. Noise and smoking restrictions are also in place, with traffic rules strictly enforced.

Despite these challenges, Shetty expressed cautious optimism, noting that December 31 can still bring unexpected business opportunities. Family and vegetarian restaurants, in particular, are expected to see a spike in customers on January 1, helping offset some of the subdued city celebrations.
