Struggling With Brain Fog? Tips Shared To Support Better Mental Clarity

Doctor suggests supplements for cognitive clarity and focus support.

Brain fog, often described as mental fatigue, confusion, and difficulty concentrating, can significantly affect daily productivity and cognitive performance. While it is usually linked to underlying health conditions such as sleep disorders, thyroid imbalance, anaemia, vitamin deficiencies, or stress-related issues, some supplements may offer supportive benefits for mental clarity in specific situations, according to health experts.

Dr Kunal Sood, an anaesthesiologist and interventional pain medicine physician, recently shared insights on supplements that may help support brain function and reduce symptoms of brain fog. He emphasised that persistent cognitive difficulties should not be ignored and require medical evaluation to identify underlying causes before relying on supplements.

One of the supplements highlighted is Creatine, which helps support the brain’s energy reserves by maintaining ATP availability during periods of high cognitive demand. Studies suggest it may improve memory, attention, and processing speed, particularly when the brain is under metabolic stress or increased workload.

Another important nutrient is Omega-3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA, which are essential for maintaining brain cell structure and supporting neural communication. These fatty acids may be particularly beneficial in cases where low dietary intake, inflammation, or mood-related concerns contribute to cognitive sluggishness.

Vitamin B12 is also crucial for nerve health, red blood cell formation, and maintaining the protective myelin sheath around nerves. Experts note that supplementation is most effective in individuals with a confirmed deficiency, where restoring levels can improve cognitive symptoms and mental clarity, while offering limited benefit in those with normal levels.

The doctor also points to Magnesium, which plays a role in sleep regulation, stress response, and energy metabolism—factors closely tied to brain function. In addition, Lion's mane mushroom is being studied for its potential neuroprotective and nerve-supporting properties, although current evidence remains mixed, making it an emerging rather than established option for cognitive support.
