Shah Rukh Khan Increases Sleep for Workout Recovery; Doctor Highlights Sleep’s Vital Role
Shah Rukh Khan increases sleep to aid workout recovery, echoing medical advice on rest’s vital role
Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has revealed that he has finally increased his legendary four-hour sleep routine to 5–6 hours a night, specifically to support muscle recovery from his intense workouts as he prepares for upcoming action-heavy roles at the age of 60.
Speaking at a Danube Properties event in Dubai on December 9, the actor admitted that while his “heart never gets tired”, his body sometimes does. “I used to sleep four hours even while working, but now when I’m training hard, I make sure I get five to six hours so the muscles can build up properly,” SRK said, drawing cheers from the audience.
The confession marks a significant shift for Khan, long famous for surviving on minimal sleep during back-to-back shoots and promotions. He explained that relentless passion often pushes him beyond physical limits: “Kabhi-kabhi jism thak jata hai, lekin dil nahi thakta (sometimes the body gets tired, but the heart doesn’t). That’s my problem—even when I’m exhausted, I go back on set because the heart keeps saying, “Chalo, aur karo.”

Medical experts have welcomed the change. Dr Venkatesh Movva, regenerative medicine specialist at RegenOrthoSport, Hyderabad, reiterated that 7–9 hours remains ideal, but even adding one or two hours dramatically boosts growth hormone release and tissue repair. “Deep sleep is when the real muscle rebuilding happens. Without it, you’re just breaking down tissue without giving the body a chance to grow stronger,” he told HT Lifestyle earlier this year.
Fans on social media hailed the update as “peak SRK discipline”, with many joking that “if King Khan is finally sleeping more, mortals have no excuse.” The actor’s new regimen comes ahead of a packed 2026 slate that reportedly includes high-octane action projects requiring peak physical condition.
