Rashmika Mandanna’s Hip Injury: Recovery Time, Causes And Treatment Explained
Rashmika Mandanna’s hip injury recovery depends on severity and treatment.
Actor Rashmika Mandanna’s reported hip injury during a dance rehearsal has brought attention to hip tendon injuries, a condition that can affect not only performers but also athletes, dancers, fitness enthusiasts and people involved in sudden physical movements. While the severity of her injury has not been publicly confirmed, medical experts explain that hip tendon injuries can range from mild strains to serious tears requiring months of recovery.
Hip tendons play an important role in connecting muscles to the hip bone and helping maintain movement, balance and flexibility. According to orthopaedic experts, these injuries usually occur due to sudden twisting motions, excessive stretching, repetitive strain or direct impact. Damage to these tendons can cause pain, reduced mobility and difficulty performing routine activities such as walking, climbing stairs or sitting for long periods.
The recovery period for a hip tendon injury depends on the extent of the damage. Mild tendon strains may improve within two to six weeks with proper rest and care. Partial tendon tears generally require a longer recovery period, often ranging from six to 12 weeks with appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. In cases where the tendon is completely torn or detached from the bone, surgery may be required, followed by several months of physiotherapy before returning to high-impact activities.

Common symptoms of hip tendon injuries include pain around the hip or groin area, swelling, weakness while moving the leg, reduced range of motion and discomfort during twisting movements. Experts warn that continuing intense physical activity despite these symptoms can worsen the injury and delay recovery. Early diagnosis is considered important to determine the right treatment approach.
Treatment usually begins with reducing pain and inflammation through rest, ice application, activity modification and prescribed medication when required. Physiotherapy plays a major role in recovery by helping restore strength, flexibility, balance and movement. Rehabilitation programmes may include stretching exercises, muscle strengthening, balance training and gradual return-to-activity plans depending on the injury’s severity.
Doctors emphasise that patients, especially athletes and performers, should not return to demanding physical activities simply because pain has reduced. A gradual recovery process is essential to prevent re-injury. Preventive measures such as proper warm-ups, strengthening hip and core muscles, maintaining flexibility, avoiding sudden increases in workout intensity and allowing adequate recovery time can reduce the risk of hip tendon injuries.
