Kunal Kemmu Opens Up About Weight Loss Journey for His Upcoming Film

Kunal Kemmu reveals weight loss journey using weekly water fasts.

Actor Kunal Kemmu has revealed that he lost nearly nine kilograms over the course of a year while preparing for his upcoming film Vibe, describing the transformation as both physically and mentally demanding. Speaking on the Honestly Saying podcast, the actor said his fitness journey combined disciplined nutrition, regular exercise and weekly 24-hour water fasts, with the gradual approach helping him achieve his target weight.

Kemmu said body transformations for film roles involve far more than simply losing weight. According to him, reducing both body fat and muscle mass can affect mood and energy levels, making the process challenging not only for actors but also for their families. He emphasised that the changes require patience, consistency and careful planning over an extended period rather than quick fixes.

A key part of his routine was a 24-hour water fast once every week, during which he consumed only water. Alongside fasting, he made significant dietary adjustments and followed a structured fitness programme. The actor explained that the transformation took nearly a year, allowing him to lose weight steadily while preparing for the physical demands of his role.

Health experts generally note that intermittent fasting, including occasional 24-hour fasts, may help some people manage weight when practised safely and under appropriate guidance. However, such fasting is not suitable for everyone. Individuals with diabetes, certain medical conditions, eating disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those taking specific medications should consult a healthcare professional before attempting prolonged fasting.

Nutritionists also stress that sustainable weight loss depends on maintaining an overall calorie balance, consuming a nutritious diet, engaging in regular physical activity and getting adequate sleep. While fasting can be one strategy for some individuals, it is not a substitute for healthy eating habits or an active lifestyle, and rapid or unsupervised fasting can lead to fatigue, dehydration and nutrient deficiencies.

Kemmu's experience highlights the level of commitment often required for film-related body transformations, but experts caution against treating celebrity fitness routines as universal solutions. They recommend choosing a weight-loss approach that is tailored to an individual's health, lifestyle and medical needs, with long-term consistency generally proving more effective than extreme dieting methods.
