Harshaali Malhotra, beloved for her heartwarming role as Munni in Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, is set to make her Telugu cinema debut as Janani in Akhanda 2: Thaandavam. The sequel to the 2021 hit Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Sreenu and starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, is slated for a multi-lingual release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam on September 25, coinciding with Dussehra.
The announcement came via 14 Reels Plus on X, introducing the 17-year-old actor with the caption, “A smile of an angel and a heart of gold. Introducing Bajrangi Bhaijaan fame #HarshaaliMalhotra as ‘JANANI’ in #Akhanda2.” Malhotra, who captivated audiences as the mute Shahida Aziz (Munni) in the 2015 blockbuster alongside Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, shared her excitement on Instagram. She described Munni as “a feeling, a memory, a heartbeat” that has stayed with her, adding that her new role marks a significant evolution. “From Munni’s silence to Janani’s voice, this isn’t just my return—it’s ours,” she wrote, emphasizing the emotional depth she’s poured into Janani.
Malhotra, who previously appeared in TV serials Qubool Hai and Laut Aao Trisha before her film debut, expressed gratitude for the audience’s enduring love and hinted at Janani’s vibrant, heartfelt persona. Akhanda 2 promises a high-octane narrative, building on the success of its predecessor, and Malhotra’s casting adds anticipation to this pan-Indian cinematic event.
