The Traitors Season 2 Review: Four Hidden Traitors, Star-Studded Cast in Jaisalmer

The Traitors Season 2 premiered on Prime Video on August 13, bringing together a high-profile and unpredictable group of contestants for another round of deception, alliances and psychological games. Set in a lavish palace in Jaisalmer, the reality series once again places contestants in a game where trust can be dangerous and friendships can be strategic. Four contestants have been secretly chosen as Traitors, while the remaining participants must identify them before they are eliminated. The opening three episodes establish the central alliances and rivalries effectively, with suspicion beginning to spread as contestants closely examine one another’s behaviour.

Karan Johar returns as host and appears even more comfortable with the show's unusual combination of humour, suspense and betrayal. His ability to move from playful banter to announcing a contestant's elimination gives the series much of its personality, while his grey Persian cat Boo adds another quirky element to the setting. The eclectic cast also provides plenty of entertainment. Mallika Sherawat immediately attracts attention with her outrageous stories, while Shalini Passi appears to be hiding more intelligence than she initially reveals. Shweta Tiwari remains relatively quiet in the early episodes, whereas Munawar Faruqui appears eager to influence the game. His developing competitive equation with Abhishek Malhan is already one of the more interesting dynamics.

Several other contestants also show potential. Rhea Chakraborty is determined to establish herself as an Innocent, while Krystle D’Souza appears interested in exploring a more deceptive side despite her seemingly innocent image. Chef Ranveer Brar brings leadership and strategic thinking, and contestants such as Shahneel Gill and Harman Singha also show an aptitude for the format. Abhishek Malhan, in particular, comes across as a strong communicator who can bring people together. Parul Gulati has also shown signs of playing a thoughtful game. However, Rida Tharana, Prish, Soundous, Karan Singh Magic, Ikka, Ansh Chopra and Tanya Puri have had comparatively little impact in the opening episodes, while Sahil Salathia faces the challenge of making a deeper impression after his brief appearance in the previous season.

The tasks and the Circle of Shaq are among the strongest elements of the new season because they expose contestants’ leadership abilities, insecurities and capacity for manipulation. Three episodes in, The Traitors Season 2 has established the ingredients needed for an entertaining reality thriller, combining strategy, ego clashes, suspicion and unexpected humour. It is not without contestants who remain underused, but the overall cast and format create enough uncertainty to keep viewers invested. With Karan Johar clearly enjoying his role and several contestants capable of surprising the others, the season looks promising — although the weekly wait after the opening binge may prove to be its biggest frustration for viewers.
