Mallika Sherawat Admits She is the Highest-Paid Contestant of Traitors Season 2
Actor confirms Traitors 2 pay speculation, discusses financial independence and career choices.
Actor Mallika Sherawat has responded to reports that she is the highest-paid contestant on the second season of “The Traitors.” Although she did not disclose her precise remuneration, she said speculation that she was receiving between ₹7 lakh and ₹9 lakh for participating in the reality programme was largely accurate.
In an interview with ETimes, Mallika defended her decision to seek appropriate compensation for her work, saying financial independence requires people to recognise the importance of money. She described herself as a self-made woman who enjoys working, earning and purchasing luxuries with her own income. The actor added that she would not accept a project if she considered the offered payment unfair.
Mallika also explained why she had repeatedly rejected invitations to participate in reality programmes such as “Bigg Boss” and “Khatron Ke Khiladi.” She said the “Bigg Boss” format did not appeal to her and that she did not believe she could contribute meaningfully to it as an actor. She maintained that financial considerations alone had never determined her choice of projects.

According to Mallika, careful financial planning over the years has given her the freedom to select work that genuinely interests her. She was initially hesitant about joining “The Traitors 2” and watched the first season only after being encouraged by her manager. Its psychological and strategy-based structure eventually convinced her to participate.
The actor said she was fascinated by how the game requires contestants to look beyond one another’s outward personalities while adopting different strategies to remain in the competition. Mallika described herself as straightforward and honest, acknowledging that manipulation was not among her strengths despite her interest in observing people and understanding their behaviour.
Mallika also said she had no regrets about appearing in the dating reality programme “The Bachelorette India: Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika,” even though she did not find a life partner through it. She joked that the show helped her purchase two houses that now generate rental income. Hosted by Karan Johar, “The Traitors 2” will feature 20 contestants and premiere on Prime Video on August 13.
