Sofia Murillo Cause Of Death: Colombian Influencer Killed In Brazil Helicopter Crash

Colombian beauty influencer Sofia Murillo, 17, died alongside her mother, grandmother and the pilot after a sightseeing helicopter crashed into a wooded hillside in Rio de Janeiro. Murillo, who had built an audience on TikTok and Instagram through beauty and skincare content, was visiting Brazil with her family when the helicopter went down near Vista Chinesa, a scenic viewpoint within Tijuca National Park, on August 8. Brazilian authorities and local media reported that all four people aboard the helicopter died in the crash. Murillo was travelling with her mother, Wendy Manrique, 37, and grandmother, Rocio Cubillos, 59. The pilot, identified as Alessandro Rocha, was also killed.

The family had travelled from Colombia to Rio de Janeiro for a vacation and had booked a sightseeing flight to see some of the city’s landmarks from the air. The helicopter was a four-seat aircraft operated by Voo Rio Panorâmico, a company offering panoramic flights over Rio’s major tourist attractions. According to reports from Brazilian media, the helicopter took off at around 11 am local time for the sightseeing trip. The flight was intended to provide aerial views of landmarks including Christ the Redeemer. Shortly after departure, however, the aircraft crashed into a forested area near Vista Chinesa in Alto da Boa Vista.

The location is surrounded by dense vegetation and lies within the mountainous terrain of Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban forests in the world. The crash brought the family’s holiday to a sudden end and drew attention because of Murillo’s young age and her presence on social media. The 17-year-old had developed a following through content focused on beauty and skincare, particularly on TikTok and Instagram. Her death has since prompted tributes and messages of grief from people who followed her online. Her mother and grandmother were also travelling with her when the helicopter went down, while Rocha was operating the aircraft at the time of the accident.
