Amitabh Bachchan Recalls Wanting To Become An IFS Officer On KBC 18

Bachchan recalls his IFS ambition during his student years.

Amitabh Bachchan took a nostalgic trip through his academic years on an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18, recalling his struggles as a student and revealing that he once considered pursuing a career in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The veteran actor made the revelation while interacting with contestant Pragati Kalpekar, who spoke about her own ambitions to continue her education and become an IFS officer.

Speaking about his younger days, Amitabh recalled his father's emphasis on completing graduation. He said he had opted for science during his college years but soon realised that the subject was more challenging than he had anticipated. Recalling his first lecture, he said the material covered in class went through much of what he had studied during his school years, leaving him feeling that he had made the wrong choice.

The actor also shared that he had struggled in an examination and initially failed before eventually clearing it through the ATKT system by a narrow margin. Amitabh recounted the experience humorously while reflecting on the academic difficulties he faced during his student years. His candid account offered viewers a glimpse into a lesser-known part of his journey before he established himself as one of India's most celebrated actors.

The conversation then turned to civil services after Pragati spoke about her plans for the future. She told Amitabh that she wanted to use her prize money to continue her studies and work towards becoming an IFS officer. Responding to her ambition, Amitabh recalled that he too had once thought about joining the Foreign Service, describing it as an attractive career option.

However, Amitabh explained that he eventually abandoned the idea because he was not familiar enough with the civil services field at the time. With his characteristic humour, he recalled that he did not even know the basics of what IFS involved, which led him to give up on the plan. His comments came as he encouraged a contestant pursuing a career goal that had once briefly crossed his own mind.

Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18 continues to feature contestants sharing their personal journeys and aspirations while competing on the popular quiz show. The latest season airs Monday to Friday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television and is also available for streaming on Sony LIV.
