Dharavi SSC Aspirant Wins Rs 25 Lakh on KBC, Nears Home Dream
Dharavi contestant wins Rs 25 lakh on KBC 18, eyes crore prize.
SSC aspirant Ruchita Adhalrao from Dharavi has won Rs 25 lakh on Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, bringing her closer to her dream of buying a permanent home for her family. Ruchita, who appeared on the Amitabh Bachchan-hosted quiz show, spoke openly about her family’s financial difficulties and said that winning Rs 25 lakh could help them move towards owning a house. She currently lives with her parents and brother in a small 10-by-10-foot rented room in Dharavi.
During the episode, Ruchita explained that her father works as a patient caretaker and earns around Rs 600 a day. She said the family often struggles to pay rent on time and has had to make several sacrifices because of their limited income. Ruchita also revealed that she has never slept on a bed because there is not enough space in their home, while owning a refrigerator is one of her mother’s dreams. She said the family has also been unable to regularly celebrate birthdays and festivals due to financial constraints.
Ruchita reached the 13th question and used the 50:50 lifeline before answering correctly. The question asked which ruler Fort William in Kolkata was originally named after, with William of Orange, William Rufus, William the Conqueror and William the Silent given as options. Ruchita initially selected William of Orange and used the lifeline before confirming her answer. With two incorrect options removed, she stayed with her original choice, which turned out to be correct and helped her progress to the Rs 25 lakh mark.

The episode also highlighted Ruchita’s determination to continue her education despite financial challenges. She is preparing for the SSC examination and believes that securing a government job could provide financial stability for her family. Unable to afford coaching classes and study materials, she uses public Wi-Fi to download educational videos and studies from them at home. Her father described her as a sincere student and recalled that she would often walk to college to save money on bus fares.
Ruchita will return on Friday’s episode to attempt the Rs 1 crore question, with two lifelines still available. The remaining lifelines are MahaFlip and Sanket Suchak, giving her additional options as she progresses through the game. Her performance has made the Rs 25 lakh win particularly significant because she had earlier indicated that the amount could bring her family closer to their long-held dream of owning a home.
Season 18 of Kaun Banega Crorepati premiered on August 10 and features 16 questions, with a maximum prize of Rs 7 crore. Ruchita’s appearance comes shortly after IIT Bombay topper and UPSC aspirant Yogesh Sahu stopped at Rs 50 lakh after choosing not to attempt the Rs 1 crore question. Ruchita’s next appearance will determine whether she can increase her winnings further and take another step towards fulfilling her family’s financial aspirations.
