Vijay's Jana Nayagan Gets 'A' Certificate From Censor Board After Delay
CBFC grants Vijay's Jana Nayagan an 'A' certificate after months of delay.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, clearing a major hurdle ahead of its expected release in July. The certification appeared on the CBFC’s official website on Thursday, with the film listed at a runtime of 183 minutes, or three hours and three minutes. The detailed list of cuts has not yet been made available.
The film was originally scheduled to release on January 9 during the Pongal festival but faced a prolonged delay over certification. Jana Nayagan was submitted to the censor board in December 2025, and its producers were reportedly initially informed that the film would receive a U/A 16+ certificate. However, objections were later raised during the examination process, leading to the film being referred to a revision committee.
The delay left the film without a certification for several months and forced its release to be postponed indefinitely. The uncertainty disappointed Vijay’s fans, who had been eagerly awaiting what has been described as his final film as an actor. With the ‘A’ certificate now issued, anticipation has again increased around the film’s theatrical release, although an official release date is yet to be confirmed.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan marks the final film of Vijay’s acting career after more than three decades in Tamil cinema. The project was originally intended to serve as his farewell to the big screen before his full-time move into politics. The film has attracted exceptional attention, with every major update, including its first-look posters and music, closely followed by fans.
Produced by KVN Productions on a reported budget of Rs. 500 crore, Jana Nayagan features a large ensemble cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the film’s music. The large-scale production and Vijay’s final appearance as a leading actor have made the project one of the most anticipated releases in Tamil cinema.
Expectations surrounding Jana Nayagan have grown further following Vijay’s political rise and the continued attention surrounding his public career. His films have traditionally recorded major openings at the box office, and the farewell project is expected to draw significant interest from audiences. With certification now secured after months of uncertainty, the film is moving closer to its long-awaited theatrical release.
