Mohanlal’s ‘Vrusshabha’ To Release On November 6: Director Nanda Kishore Reveals Vision Behind the Epic

Nanda Kishore compares mythological heroes to X-Men while discussing Mohanlal’s upcoming fantasy period drama Vrushabha.

Nanda Kishore, in an interview, has revealed insights into his ambitious multilingual period fantasy film Vrusshabha, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and set for release on November 6, 2025. Describing the project as a blend of emotional depth, karmic philosophy, and mass entertainment, Kishore likened Indian mythological figures like Ganesha and Narasimha to modern superheroes such as the X-Men. He emphasised drawing inspiration from ancient epics like the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the story of Satya Harishchandra to craft a narrative rooted in destiny, truth, and familial bonds across two eras.

Kishore, known for Kannada hits like Pogaru, shared that the script crystallised quickly after months of conceptual travel and historical research. Though initially not written with Mohanlal in mind, the actor was cast post-first draft for his unparalleled ability to convey emotion through subtlety—particularly with his eyes—and handle intense action sequences.

The director praised Mohanlal’s versatility, citing Pavithram as a personal favourite, and noted the actor’s immediate approval after a full script narration. Produced on a large scale with simultaneous shoots in Telugu, the film will also release in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Acknowledging the pressure following Mohanlal’s recent box-office resurgence—including blockbusters L2: Empuraan, Thudarum, and Hridayapoorvam grossing nearly ₹500 crore collectively—and his Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Kishore admitted heightened responsibility.

He positioned Vrusshabha as an underdog project that gained traction post-teaser and aims to revive India’s rich tradition of fantasy-period dramas, reminiscent of classics like My Dear Kuttichathan. The film marks Kishore’s evolution as a director venturing beyond regional cinema.

With its themes of karma, dharma, and mythological grandeur, Vrusshabha seeks to reclaim India’s narrative legacy in global cinema. Kishore remains confident that the strong subject, Mohanlal’s commanding presence, and a mix of class and mass appeal will resonate pan-India. As anticipation builds, the film represents a bold step in bridging regional storytelling with universal cinematic ambition.
