Shanaya Kapoor Unfazed by Debut Flop, Eyes Bigger Risks Ahead
Shanaya Kapoor stays motivated despite her debut film's mixed reviews and box-office failure.
Bollywood actor Shanaya Kapoor has said she did not take the mixed reception of her debut film Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan to heart, despite the movie failing at the box office. Shanaya, daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor, made her debut opposite Vikrant Massey in the romantic drama. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. Its theatrical run remained limited. However, the actor said the experience did not discourage her.
In a recent interview with India Today, Shanaya explained that she was already immersed in her next project when the film released. She said her focus had shifted to the work ahead rather than dwelling on the outcome of her debut. According to her, being occupied with another shoot helped her process the situation calmly. This, she said, prevented her from feeling demotivated. She chose to look at the bigger picture.
Shanaya shared that it has always been her dream to see packed theaters for her films. When that did not happen with her debut, she tried to draw strength from audience appreciation instead. She said the love she received from viewers who watched the film motivated her. The delayed release of the film had also built emotional anticipation for her. Despite the setback, she said she felt grateful for the opportunity.

The actor added that she believes in continuing to hope and take creative risks. She said she wants to explore different roles and not let fear dictate her choices. According to Shanaya, setbacks are part of the journey in the film industry. She emphasised the importance of enjoying the process and learning from every experience. Her focus remains on growth rather than immediate success.
Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh, was adapted from Ruskin Bond’s short story The Eyes Have It. Despite its literary roots and notable cast, the film earned only ₹2.08 crore worldwide. Shanaya will next be seen in Tu Yaa Main, directed by Bejoy Nambiar and produced by Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on February 13.
