'Ghooskhor Pandat' Teaser Pulled After Backlash; Pandey Says Sorry for Hurt Caused
Netflix removes 'Ghooskhor Pandat' teaser after backlash; Neeraj Pandey apologizes for hurt.
Netflix has taken down the teaser and other promotional material of its upcoming project Ghooskhor Pandat following a backlash over the film’s title, which sections of the Brahmin community described as offensive and defamatory. The controversy prompted public criticism on social media, with calls for the streaming platform and the makers to withdraw the content.
The project, which stars actor Manoj Bajpayee and is backed by filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, came under scrutiny soon after its teaser was released online. Critics argued that the title perpetuated negative stereotypes and hurt religious sentiments, leading to demands for an apology and corrective action from both Netflix and the production team.
In his first public response to the row, Neeraj Pandey acknowledged that the title had caused hurt to some people. While defending the creative intent behind the name, Pandey said it was never meant to insult or target any community. He confirmed that all promotional material related to the project had been taken down as a mark of respect for the sentiments expressed.

Pandey also stressed that storytelling often involves complex characters and provocative themes but added that causing emotional distress was not the intention of the makers. He said the team had taken note of the concerns raised and would engage internally to address the issue responsibly. Netflix, meanwhile, has not issued a separate detailed statement but acted swiftly by removing the teaser from its platforms.
The backlash highlights the sensitivity surrounding representation and naming in popular culture, particularly when content intersects with religious or community identities. Similar controversies in the past have sparked wider debates over creative freedom, censorship, and accountability in the entertainment industry.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Ghooskhor Pandat will undergo changes to its title or branding before release. The incident has once again placed streaming platforms under the spotlight, as creators and distributors navigate the balance between artistic expression and public sentiment in an increasingly connected and reactive digital space.
