The Odyssey Advance Bookings Point to Rs 65-75 Crore Opening Weekend

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is expected to make a strong start at the Indian box office when it releases on July 17, with trade estimates projecting an opening-day collection of Rs 18-22 crore and an opening weekend total of Rs 65-75 crore. The epic historical drama has emerged as one of the most anticipated Hollywood releases of the year in India, driven by strong advance bookings and exceptional demand for premium large-format screenings across major cities.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the film has already generated nearly Rs 18 crore in advance ticket sales for its first three days in India. Based on current booking trends, he estimates the film could earn between Rs 18 crore and Rs 22 crore nett on its opening day, while the three-day opening weekend is expected to finish in the Rs 65-75 crore nett range. The advance sales indicate significant audience interest ahead of the nationwide release.

Demand has been particularly strong for IMAX screenings, with several shows selling out across metropolitan cities including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. Premium-format screenings have witnessed high occupancy levels, reflecting Christopher Nolan's popularity among Indian audiences and the film's large-scale cinematic presentation. The strong booking trend is expected to contribute significantly to the film's opening weekend performance.

Ticket prices for premium IMAX screenings have also attracted attention. In Delhi, recliner seats at select PVR IMAX locations are priced as high as Rs 2,500, while premium screenings at PVR Select City Walk are selling for up to Rs 2,400. In Mumbai, recliner seats for IMAX shows at PVR ICON, Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel, are priced at up to Rs 3,100 across multiple screenings, highlighting the willingness of audiences to pay premium rates for the theatrical experience.

The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic, chronicling King Odysseus' long and perilous journey home to Ithaca following the Trojan War. Matt Damon plays the lead role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope and Tom Holland appearing as Telemachus. The film also features Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Elliot Page in key roles.

With impressive advance bookings and widespread interest in premium screenings, industry observers expect The Odyssey to become one of the biggest Hollywood openings of the year in India. While the final box office outcome will depend on audience response after release, the film enters cinemas with strong momentum and is well positioned to deliver a significant opening weekend at the Indian box office.
