Sunny Deol's 'Border 2' Powers to ₹30 Crore Solid Opening
Border 2 nets Rs 30 crore on Day 1, beating Dhurandhar.
Border 2, the latest war drama starring Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan, made a powerful start at the Indian box office on its opening day, collecting ₹30 crore net on Friday, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film, directed by Anurag Singh, was released nationwide on January 23, strategically timed to benefit from the extended Republic Day holiday weekend.
The strong opening places Border 2 ahead of the recent blockbuster Dhurandhar, which had earned ₹28 crore on its first day. Including taxes, the film’s India gross stood at approximately ₹35.5 crore, underlining a robust debut driven by both advance bookings and healthy spot ticket sales.
Prior to release, Border 2 had already built momentum with advance ticket sales worth ₹12.5 crore across India, selling more than 4.09 lakh tickets from 16,221 shows. When block bookings were factored in, advance sales rose to ₹17.5 crore. The Hindi 2D version contributed the bulk of the pre-release business, while premium formats such as IMAX 2D, 4DX and Dolby Cinema added incremental gains.

The data indicates strong word-of-mouth and increased footfall as the day progressed.
Regionally, Delhi NCR emerged as the strongest market, with Border 2 running in 1,538 shows and registering an impressive 42% occupancy. Mumbai and Ahmedabad followed with 1,022 and 799 shows, respectively, while cities such as Lucknow, Chandigarh and Jaipur performed well in the Hindi belt. The film also saw encouraging traction in southern markets like Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war, Border 2 features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, alongside Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana. With a strong opening day and a long holiday weekend ahead, the film is expected to consolidate its box office performance in the coming days.
