Richa Chadha Defends Dia Mirza After Son’s Plastic Warning Triggers Massive Online Backlash
Richa Chadha defends Dia Mirza amid backlash.
Actor Richa Chadha has come out in strong support of fellow actor Dia Mirza after the latter faced heavy online trolling over a viral anecdote involving her five-year-old son and his reaction to plastic packaging used by a delivery agent. The incident, originally shared by Dia on a talk show, sparked criticism on social media, with users questioning her parenting and lifestyle choices.
The controversy began after Dia Mirza recounted how her son Avyaan expressed discomfort upon seeing coconut water delivered in plastic packaging. In the clip, she described how the child asked the delivery agent to remove the plastic and straw before entering the home, reflecting what she said were the family’s strict preferences regarding plastic use. The story, however, drew backlash online, with some users accusing her of hypocrisy and pointing to her alleged use of luxury vehicles while promoting environmental awareness.
Responding to the criticism, Richa Chadha posted a detailed note on social media platform X, defending Dia Mirza and calling out the intensity of online trolling directed at public figures. She questioned the state of mental health awareness in the entertainment industry and criticised what she described as relentless online harassment of actors. Her remarks also highlighted concerns about how public figures are often subjected to personal attacks regardless of their actions or intent.

Richa further dismissed claims circulating online about Dia Mirza’s lifestyle, stating that she had not seen any evidence of the luxury vehicle mentioned in viral posts. She instead emphasised Dia’s environmental work, noting her involvement in ecological initiatives such as bamboo-based paper production, plastic-recycling startups and climate-focused creative projects. She also pointed out that Dia had once gifted her 1,100 trees as a wedding present, which she described as an example of her commitment to environmental causes.
In her post, Richa also referenced the broader issue of online toxicity, suggesting that criticism of public figures often crosses into harassment, particularly when it involves women. She argued that individuals engaged in meaningful environmental work are often unfairly targeted, despite their contributions to social causes. Her comments framed the incident as part of a larger conversation about trolling culture and accountability on social media platforms.
The original anecdote shared by Dia Mirza had also received positive reactions from some, including actor Soha Ali Khan, who praised the child’s conviction and awareness at a young age. Dia had described the moment as an example of how her son is being raised with a strong understanding of environmental responsibility. Dia Mirza and Richa Chadha, who share a friendly relationship and are often seen together at industry events, have not issued further statements beyond their respective posts. The episode has reignited debate online over parenting choices, celebrity influence and the boundaries of public scrutiny in the age of social media.
