PC's Citadel Season 2 Pushed to Fall 2026; Samantha's Honey Bunny on Hold

Insiders indicate that Amazon MGM is dissatisfied with what they have seen so far of Season 2

The release of Season 2 of Priyanka Chopra-starrer Amazon MGM’s spy series ‘Citadel’ has been postponed by a year to Fall 2026, while the Indian spin-off starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been put on hold for now, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

The ambitious and expensive series, executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, was conceived as a global flagship show. However, production challenges, including creative disagreements and escalating budgets, have led to the delay. Initially scheduled for a fall 2025 release, the second season will now debut in spring 2026. Moreover, all planned spin-offs, including Italy’s ‘Citadel: Diana’ and India’s ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny,’ are on hold at least until the main series returns.

Insiders indicate that Amazon MGM is dissatisfied with what they have seen so far of Season 2, but the company has not publicly commented on the situation. Shooting for the second season wrapped up in late November last year, but post-production challenges persist.

The series has faced hurdles since its inception, with reshoots, multiple cuts, and crew changes inflating the budget by $75 million on top of an initial $160 million. Despite its troubled production, ‘Citadel’ was renewed for a second season even before the first season premiered in April 2023.

The setbacks have led to speculation about the show's future, raising questions about Amazon MGM’s commitment to the franchise. Initially envisioned as Amazon’s answer to James Bond, ‘Citadel’ now faces an uncertain path as Amazon takes full creative control after finalizing a deal earlier this month.
