Priyanka Chopra Shares What Made Her Roka Ceremony So Special

Priyanka Chopra recently recalled emotional moments from her traditional roka ceremony with Nick Jonas, sharing details about how the ceremony unfolded and the heartfelt reaction her husband had afterwards. Speaking on the Mythical Kitchen podcast, Chopra described the event as a deeply meaningful family gathering that marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.

Chopra said she had not fully anticipated the scale and emotional weight of the ceremony, but her mother had carefully organised it to make the occasion memorable. The actor explained that the space had been transformed into a traditional setting with low seating arrangements and a havan kund at the centre, while several priests conducted rituals and chanted prayers. According to Chopra, the ceremony created an atmosphere that symbolised stepping into a new phase of life.

The actor reflected on the moment she walked into the room, saying the spiritual environment and family presence made the experience particularly powerful. While the significance of the occasion did not immediately sink in when the engagement ring was placed on her finger, Chopra said the reality of the commitment began to feel real when she and Jonas walked hand in hand after the ceremony.

She added that the moment made her reflect on the idea of choosing one’s own family and beginning a new journey together. Chopra also spoke about how Jonas embraced the traditions during the ceremony. She recalled that the singer participated enthusiastically in the rituals, repeating the Sanskrit word “swaha” during the havan, which delighted her extended family members. According to Chopra, her relatives were particularly impressed by Jonas’s willingness to follow the rituals and respect the cultural traditions of the ceremony.

Reflecting on the moment afterward, Chopra said Jonas turned to her and jokingly asked how she could possibly not marry him after the ceremony went so smoothly. The couple, who married in 2018, have often shared glimpses of their relationship in interviews and public appearances, frequently highlighting their mutual admiration and the blending of their cultural backgrounds.
