Prime Video Wraps ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ With Feature Film By Jenny Han
The YA hit series concludes with a movie adaptation as author Jenny Han directs the final chapter.
Prime Video announced on Wednesday that its beloved young adult series "The Summer I Turned Pretty" will wrap up with a feature film written and directed by author Jenny Han, marking the culmination of the global hit adapted from her best-selling trilogy. The decision was revealed during the season three finale red carpet event in Paris, though plot details remain undisclosed, heightening anticipation among fans of the coming-of-age drama that has captivated audiences since its 2022 debut.
The series, centered on a poignant love triangle between protagonist Belly (Lola Tung) and brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), has resonated widely, amassing 25 million viewers worldwide in the first week of its third season earlier this year, making it Prime Video’s fifth most-watched returning season. Han, who co-showruns the series with Sarah Kucserka, stated that a film was the ideal medium to conclude Belly’s emotional journey. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said, expressing gratitude to Prime Video for supporting her vision.
Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming, and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, global head of television, hailed the series as a “global sensation” fostering “joy, nostalgia, and connection.” Co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and wiip, the show also features Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer, with executive producers including Karen Rosenfelt and Paul Lee.
The narrative, rich with themes of family, friendship, and first love, has built a dedicated fanbase, amplified by Han’s proven storytelling prowess seen in her Netflix-adapted "To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before" trilogy and its spinoff "XO, Kitty."

The film announcement follows the series’ consistent cultural impact, with season three’s Paris premiere drawing influencers and fans, generating over 10 million social media impressions on platforms like X. As Prime Video invests heavily in young adult content—evidenced by recent hits like "The Boys" and "Maxton Hall"—the film promises to deliver a cinematic farewell to Belly’s story, leveraging Han’s dual role as creator and director to ensure fidelity to the source material cherished by millions.
