Harvey Weinstein Hospitalised In New York After Heart Failure In Jail

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was reportedly hospitalised in New York after suffering heart failure while in custody at Rikers Island prison, according to media reports. The 74-year-old former film mogul was rushed to medical care two weeks ago after experiencing complications linked to pneumonia, sources told TMZ.

Weinstein was transferred to the prison ward at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where he was placed on a heart monitor, administered intravenous treatment, and given antibiotics for pneumonia. Reports indicate that he has remained under medical supervision since then and is recovering, although his condition has not been described as fully stable.

The health emergency adds to a series of serious medical issues Weinstein has faced in recent years. He was previously diagnosed with cancer and has been hospitalised multiple times since 2024 due to deteriorating health while incarcerated. Earlier hospitalisations included treatment for COVID-19, double pneumonia, and complications related to inadequate medical care at Rikers Island, according to previous reports cited by ABC News.

In September 2024, Weinstein also underwent emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital. His repeated hospital visits have drawn attention to his declining health as he continues to serve time following convictions related to sexual assault. He is currently awaiting sentencing in September for a separate sexual assault conviction.

Weinstein, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, has been convicted in multiple jurisdictions for sexual offences and is serving a combined prison sentence. His downfall, following allegations from more than 100 women, played a central role in the emergence of the global #MeToo movement. Despite some overturned convictions and retrials in New York, several of his other convictions remain in force as legal proceedings and appeals continue.
