Harvey Weinstein Claims He Was Punched, Left Bleeding on Rikers Island Floor
Weinstein alleges prison assault while awaiting retrial at Rikers Island.
Disgraced Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has alleged that he was assaulted while serving time in prison, claiming he was punched in the face during an altercation with another inmate. Weinstein, who is currently being held at Rikers Island, said the incident left him bleeding and injured. The 73-year-old made the claims while speaking about his experiences in custody during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Weinstein, who has been convicted of rape and sexual assault in cases brought in New York and Los Angeles, said the alleged assault occurred while he was waiting to use a phone inside the prison facility. According to his account, he asked another inmate if he had finished using the phone, which led to a sudden physical attack. Weinstein claimed the man struck him hard in the face, causing him to fall to the ground while bleeding.
Recounting the incident, Weinstein said the confrontation escalated quickly and left him seriously hurt. He said prison authorities later asked him to identify the person responsible for the assault, but he declined to do so. Weinstein explained that identifying another inmate could have serious consequences inside the prison environment, describing it as an unwritten rule among prisoners not to cooperate with authorities in such situations.

The former film producer also spoke about what he described as difficult and isolating conditions inside the jail. According to Weinstein, he spends a large portion of his time confined to his cell and has limited interaction with other inmates. He claimed that prison life has been hostile and that he feels unsafe when outside his cell, including during the brief periods when inmates are allowed access to common areas.
Weinstein is currently being held at Rikers Island while awaiting a retrial related to allegations that he raped an actress at a hotel in Manhattan. His legal battles stem from a series of sexual assault accusations that surfaced during the global Me Too movement, which led to multiple criminal cases and convictions against him in recent years.
During the interview, Weinstein also said he fears he may die while in prison custody and expressed frustration about the way he believes he has been treated by the justice system. He added that he has lost contact with some members of his family and has attempted to reach out to his daughters without receiving responses. His remarks offered a rare insight into his life behind bars as he continues to face ongoing legal proceedings.
