Chadwick Boseman Receives Walk of Fame Honor as His Widow Leads Emotional Tribute
Boseman is posthumously honored with a Walk of Fame star in an emotional ceremony led by his widow.
Five years after his tragic death, Chadwick Boseman was posthumously awarded the 2,769th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a deeply moving ceremony held Thursday on Hollywood Boulevard. The late actor, forever immortalised as King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, was honoured in front of the historic El Capitan Theatre, with his widow Simone Ledward-Boseman leading the tributes alongside director Ryan Coogler and Oscar-winning co-star Viola Davis.
Speaking through tears, Ledward-Boseman called the day “beautiful”, surrounded by family and friends who celebrated the man they knew and loved. “Everyone was just so full of love and joy. We’re all so proud of this person that we shared,” she told reporters, standing beside a portrait of Chadwick and a pair of his shoes placed on the freshly unveiled star.
Ryan Coogler, who directed Boseman in Black Panther and was preparing the sequel when the actor passed, praised his extraordinary generosity. “Even when he knew his days were limited, he still gave to the art form. He still threw himself into the fire,” Coogler said, recalling how Boseman performed his own stunts and remained fully committed while privately battling colon cancer.

Viola Davis, who starred opposite him in his final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, described Boseman’s work as a reminder “that we are less alone.” She emphasised that he was “more than just an actor you can observe on screen doing wonderful work” but a profoundly human presence whose grace and dignity touched everyone around him.
Boseman rose to global stardom in 2013 with his portrayal of Jackie Robinson in 42, followed by iconic roles as James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and the groundbreaking superhero Black Panther. He died on August 29, 2020, at age 43 after a four-year private struggle with cancer, never revealing his illness publicly while continuing to deliver some of his career’s finest performances.
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of Boseman’s enduring legacy, with speakers and attendees alike celebrating not just the actor, but the quiet strength, integrity, and inspiration he embodied. His star now permanently joins Hollywood’s most storied sidewalk, a fitting tribute to a performer who forever changed the landscape of representation on screen.
