‘A Korean Odyssey’ Star Lee Seung-gi Cuts Ties with Wife’s Family Amid Father-in-Law’s Legal Scandal

Lee Hong-heon, who had previously been acquitted in a stock manipulation case, is now under fresh investigation for similar alleged activities.

South Korean actor Lee Seung-gi has announced that he and wife Lee Da-in have severed ties with her family, following renewed legal troubles involving his father-in-law, Lee Hong-heon. The ‘A Korean Odyssey’ star shared a heartfelt note expressing anguish over the ongoing scandal, stating he is “devastated and at a loss for words” over Hong-heon’s alleged “wrongful actions.”

Lee Hong-heon, who had previously been acquitted in a stock manipulation case involving COREBEAT, was found guilty in a retrial in 2024 after Korea’s Supreme Court overturned the earlier ruling. He is now under fresh investigation for similar alleged activities, reportedly involving another firm, Quantapia.

In his statement, Seung-gi said, “Although my father-in-law was previously sentenced to a fine in the retrial… he has recently been indicted again… I am devastated.” The actor also issued an apology to victims and fans, admitting regret over having spoken in his father-in-law’s defence previously. “I firmly believe any illegal acts must be met with appropriate punishment,” he said.

Seung-gi further revealed that the situation has fractured family trust. “After much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to sever ties with her family,” he wrote, adding that he will strive to live with greater responsibility going forward.

Lee Seung-gi married Lee Da-in, daughter of veteran actor Kyeon Mi-ri, in April 2023. Despite the controversy, he remains a popular figure in Korean entertainment, known for dramas such as ‘Vagabond’, ‘Mouse’, and ‘The Law Café’.

The actor concluded his note with an apology: “I bow my head in apology for causing concern and disappointment over this personal matter.”
