Nick Jonas on Podcast: Reliability and Trust Key to Being a Good Husband
Nick Jonas stresses reliability and trust as key husband qualities for Malti.
Singer and Actor Nick Jonas has shared his perspective on what it means to be a good husband, saying that reliability and trust are at the heart of a strong marriage—especially when children are watching. Jonas made the remarks during an appearance on the February 4 episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast.
Reflecting on his marriage to actor Priyanka Chopra, whom he married in 2018, the 33-year-old said being dependable is central to how he views his role as a partner. “Being a good husband, for me, means being reliable and trustworthy,” Jonas said while responding to Shetty’s question about what he aspires to be in his marriage.
Jonas stressed that his actions as a husband carry added weight because of their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. He said Malti will grow up observing how he treats her mother, and that example will shape her understanding of relationships. “The way in which I treat her mother is incredibly important to who she becomes,” he said, calling it his responsibility to make Chopra feel happy, safe, and supported.

He added that life can often feel overwhelming, but navigating its challenges becomes easier with a partner one can rely on. Jonas described marriage as a shared journey through a “mixed bag of emotions and experiences,” underscoring the importance of mutual trust and emotional support.
During the same podcast, Jonas also spoke candidly about Malti’s premature birth in January 2022 via surrogacy. He recalled the experience as intense and emotional, revealing that she was born weighing just 1 pound, 11 ounces, and required immediate care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Jonas said he and Chopra spent nearly three and a half months taking 12-hour shifts at the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic as Malti gradually gained strength. “She fought every day,” he said, describing the period as one that profoundly shaped their outlook on family and resilience.
