Kalyani Priyadarshan Marks New Film Journey With 'Pralay' Shoot Alongside Ranveer Singh
Kalyani Priyadarshan begins filming Pralay with Ranveer Singh.
Ranveer Singh’s upcoming zombie thriller Pralay has officially begun filming in Mumbai, with Lokah actor Kalyani Priyadarshan joining the project. Directed by Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta, the film is being shot across real locations in and around the city. The project is set in a near-future Mumbai transformed by the aftermath of a deadly pandemic and a subsequent zombie outbreak.
Kalyani recently reacted to producer Ananya Birla’s social media post announcing the start of production. Expressing her enthusiasm about the project, the actor wrote, “Time to go make a film that we’re all going to be so proud of.” Her addition to the cast marks another step forward for the large-scale production, which is being positioned as an original post-apocalyptic story.
Pralay is set in a Mumbai where a devastating pandemic has already altered everyday life before the situation deteriorates further following the emergence of a zombie outbreak. The film will explore a city struggling to survive amid the rapidly changing circumstances. While the makers have kept several aspects of the plot under wraps, the project is expected to present the post-apocalyptic setting on a scale rarely attempted in Indian cinema.

Producer Hansal Mehta has previously discussed the development of the film and the involvement of Ranveer. He revealed that Jai had been developing the idea for a long time before pitching it to Ranveer, who responded positively to the concept. According to Hansal, Ranveer’s commitment to the script and Jai’s vision helped the team move forward with developing the film and its world.
Hansal has also clarified that Pralay is not based on Jose Saramago’s acclaimed novel Blindness. The story has been written originally by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, with the filmmakers developing the concept independently. Hansal explained that the production team has invested considerable effort in shaping the film’s ideas, visual world and overall scale before taking the project into production.
With filming now underway in Mumbai, Pralay has entered the next phase of its production with Ranveer and Kalyani among its key cast members. The makers have continued to keep major story details confidential while emphasising the film’s original premise and expansive setting. Further details about the cast, release plans and the fictional world of Pralay are expected to be announced as production progresses.
