Zakir Khan Confirms Long Break From Live Performances Until 2030

Zakir Khan takes a hiatus from live shows till 2030 due to health.

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has announced an extended break from live performances, revealing during a show in Hyderabad that he plans to step away from touring until 2030. The decision, according to his team, has been taken due to health concerns and personal reasons, marking a significant pause in the career of one of India’s most popular comedians.

Following the on-stage announcement, Zakir hinted at the hiatus through an Instagram story shared on Tuesday afternoon. After arriving in Dubai later that day, he posted another update confirming that the decision to take a long break from live shows was final, prompting an outpouring of support from fans across social media.

In his message to audiences, Zakir emphasised the emotional value of his remaining performances. “Every show is a celebration till June 20. I won’t be able to come to many cities this time, so please make a little extra effort and come to the shows. Thank you for all the love,” he wrote, urging fans to attend his upcoming appearances while expressing gratitude for their continued support.

Zakir Khan, known for his relatable storytelling and the widely popular ‘sakht launda’ persona, has enjoyed a meteoric rise since winning Comedy Central’s India’s Best Stand-Up competition in 2012. Over the years, he has built a massive fan base through acclaimed specials such as Haq Se Single and Kaksha Gyarvi, both in India and internationally.

Last year, the comedian achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian stand-up comic to perform a Hindi-language show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Calling it a “big day”, Zakir described the experience as overwhelming, performing in front of nearly 6,000 people, with celebrity supporters including chef Vikas Khanna and actor Kal Penn in attendance.

While Zakir Khan has not disclosed specific details about his health, his announcement signals a deliberate step back to focus on recovery and personal well-being. Fans, meanwhile, are expected to cherish his remaining live shows as he temporarily steps away from the stage until the end of the decade.
