Vivek Oberoi: Akshay Kumar Gave Me His Shows to Save My Career
Vivek Oberoi credits Akshay Kumar for support during career slump.
Actor Vivek Oberoi has recalled how Akshay Kumar supported him during one of the most difficult phases of his career, when he was facing professional isolation and struggling to find work. Vivek said Akshay personally visited him when he was feeling depressed and later helped him by offering some of his own shows.
Vivek made a successful Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s Company in 2002, but his career faced a major setback the following year. After his highly publicised feud with Salman Khan, the actor said he went through a period of professional isolation, received repeated rejections and found himself without work despite the early success of his career.
Speaking in an interview with Mirchi Plus, Vivek recalled receiving a phone call from Akshay, who asked where he was and what he was doing. Vivek said he told the actor that he was at home and feeling deeply depressed. About half an hour later, Akshay arrived at his house and sat down with him to understand the problems he was facing.

Vivek said Akshay listened as he spoke about the difficulties affecting his career and personal state of mind. The gesture came at a time when Vivek felt isolated within the film industry and uncertain about his professional future. According to the actor, Akshay’s decision to reach out personally made a significant difference during the difficult period.
Vivek further said Akshay went beyond offering emotional support and helped him professionally by giving him some of his own shows. The two actors later worked together in the 2005 comedy film Deewane Huye Paagal. Vivek described Akshay’s intervention as a rescue during a period when he had little work and was struggling with repeated rejection.
Looking back on the experience, Vivek highlighted Akshay’s support as an important example of friendship within the film industry. His account has once again drawn attention to the challenging period that followed his early success and the professional difficulties he said he faced after his public controversy with Salman Khan.
