TIFF Audiences and Critics can't Get Enough of Bobby Deol's Vulnerability in Bandar

Bobby Deol shines in bold Anurag Kashyap drama premiering at TIFF.

Acclaimed actor Bobby Deol has described his role in the upcoming film "Bandar," directed by Anurag Kashyap, as a rare and transformative opportunity that pushed him to deliver his best performance. The film, which marks the first collaboration between Deol and Kashyap, recently made its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) under the Special Presentations segment.

Inspired by real-life events, "Bandar" tells the gripping story of a fading celebrity accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend, shedding light on systemic injustices, silenced voices in courtrooms, and the flaws within the legal system. The film, produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, features a stellar cast including Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Sapna Pabbi.

In an interview with PTI, Deol reflected on the significance of landing such a challenging role. “We all dream of playing characters that bring out the best in us, but such opportunities are not easy to come by. The biggest struggle in this industry is to be recognised for one’s true capabilities. I feel really lucky to have got this opportunity,” he said.

Deol, celebrated for his performances in projects like Animal, Ashram, and The Ba*ds of Bollywood, expressed disbelief at seeing his work showcased at TIFF. “I just wanted to do a good character, which challenged me and was out of my comfort zone. And God has been kind. The love of people has given me that energy to work harder, for my fans,” Deol added while attending the film’s premiere.
