The Clash Between Suniel and Akshay Isn't Rivalry—It's Box Office Strategy

Suniel Shetty defends on-screen tension formula with Akshay Kumar.

Actor Suniel Shetty has opened up about his long-standing on-screen partnership with Akshay Kumar, saying the playful rivalry between their characters has been a successful formula that audiences continue to enjoy. Speaking in an exclusive interview ahead of the release of Welcome To The Jungle, Shetty reflected on how their recurring clashes in films have always ended with friendship, creating memorable moments that have resonated with moviegoers over the years. The latest instalment reunites the popular duo, whose chemistry has been a highlight in several Bollywood hits.

Discussing their dynamic in the film, Shetty said the relationship between their characters follows a familiar pattern that has worked throughout their careers. He noted that while their characters often begin at odds with one another, the story eventually brings them together, making the journey entertaining for audiences. Citing films such as Waqt Hamara Hai, Mohra and Dhadkan, the actor said the director has once again used this tried-and-tested formula in Welcome To The Jungle, where he and Akshay Kumar initially do not get along on screen.

Shetty dismissed the idea that the rivalry reflects any real-life competition, explaining that the tension has always existed only between their fictional characters. According to the actor, the contrast in their personalities within films has consistently added humour and drama, contributing to the popularity of their collaborations. Their partnership has previously delivered several commercially successful films, including the Hera Pheri franchise, where their comic timing earned widespread appreciation from audiences.
