Thamma Box Office Day 3: Rashmika, Ayushmann Film Crosses Rs 50 Crore
Thamma crosses Rs 50 crore in three days, driven by Rashmika-Ayushmann’s strong festive weekend performance.
Maddock Films' latest entry in its expanding horror-comedy universe, Thamma, has surged past the Rs 50 crore milestone in its first three days of release, captivating audiences with its blend of scares and laughs starring Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana. Released on October 21, 2025, amid the festive Diwali buzz, the film opened strongly with Rs 24 crore on Tuesday, fuelled by high occupancy in major metros and family viewings. By Thursday, October 23, it added Rs 12.50 crore, pushing the cumulative total to Rs 55.10 crore net in India, according to early estimates from trade trackers. This performance underscores the enduring appeal of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), which has grossed over Rs 1,000 crore across its interconnected titles.
Day-wise, Thamma experienced a natural post-holiday dip—earning Rs 18.60 crore on Wednesday before stabilising with Thursday's haul—but retained robust evening and night shows, particularly in Tier-2 cities like Lucknow and Indore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted the film's resilience, noting on X: "#Thamma continues its super-solid run on Day 2 [Wednesday]... Coming off a big holiday on Tuesday, the film did witness a dip at select centres, but strong evening and night show occupancies helped cover the shortfall. A key highlight is the strong backing from family audiences, which is further strengthening the identity and acceptance of the #MHCU." This makes Thamma the second-highest opener in the franchise, trailing only Stree 2's Rs 51 crore debut, and marks Ayushmann's biggest Day 1 ever, eclipsing Dream Girl 2's Rs 10.69 crore.
Critically, Thamma has earned praise for its lead duo's chemistry and the franchise's signature wit-meets-witchcraft vibe. NDTV critic Saibal Chatterjee lauded in his review: "The lead pair never loses grip over roles that require their prosthetic Dracula teeth to do as much of the talking as their eyes—talking of eyes, Rashmika Mandanna, not surprisingly, wins hands down—and mouths. They do a fine job of flitting back and forth between bewilderment and omniscience." Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film weaves in cameos from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal, tying into the lore of Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya through subtle nods to supernatural entities and small-town folklore.

As Thamma eyes a potential Rs 100 crore weekend close, its success signals MHCU's evolution from niche genre-benders to mainstream blockbusters, blending regional humour with pan-India stars. With Rashmika's expressive flair complementing Ayushmann's everyman charm, the film not only boosts the actors' post-pandemic trajectories but also reinforces horror-comedy as Bollywood's safest bet for festive seasons. Overseas markets, including the US and UK, report brisk openings, hinting at global legs ahead.
