Rekha Calls Rakesh Roshan a Genius as Koi… Mil Gaya Hits Theaters Again
Rekha hails Rakesh Roshan as a genius on Koi… Mil Gaya’s 20th anniversary re-release.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary theatrical re-release of Koi… Mil Gaya in August 2025, veteran actress Rekha lauded filmmaker Rakesh Roshan for his exceptional directorial prowess and creative vision. In an interview with IANS, Rekha, who portrayed Sonia Mehra, a devoted working mother, in the iconic film, described Roshan as “one of the most prolific directors of our times.”
She highlighted his ability to blend Indian cultural pride with forward-thinking storytelling, noting his deep-rooted passion for cinema and an acute sense of music inherited from his father, Roshan Sahab, and brother, Rajesh Roshan. Rekha emphasized Roshan’s portrayal of the Indian woman as a multitasking “Devi Maa,” embodying strength and modernity, a vision she deeply connects with through her roles in his films, including Khoon Bhari Maang, Koi… Mil Gaya, and Krrish.
Rekha praised Roshan’s rare ability to excel as both an actor and director, drawing parallels with the legendary Raj Kapoor. She celebrated his bold decision to re-release Koi… Mil Gaya nationwide, a feat she described as unprecedented in an era where theatrical releases are challenging for most filmmakers. “For Guddu ji, it is normal to accomplish the impossible, to catch dreams from the clouds and translate them to reality,” Rekha remarked, calling the film a “timeless blockbuster” that encapsulates the Navarasas of life—blending superhuman elements, adventure, and emotional depth.
The 2003 sci-fi classic, starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, won National Film Awards for Best Choreography, Best Special Effects, and Best Film on Other Social Issues.
The re-release underscores Roshan’s enduring impact on Indian cinema, with Koi… Mil Gaya continuing to resonate with audiences for its innovative narrative and emotional storytelling. Rekha’s heartfelt tribute highlights Roshan’s ability to create films that transcend time, cementing his legacy as a visionary who bridges cultural heritage with global cinematic aspirations.
As theaters across India screen this beloved classic, Roshan’s dream of making the impossible possible continues to inspire a new generation of filmgoers.
