Ranveer Singh Offers Prayers At Chamundeshwari Temple After Court Directive In Kantara Row

Ranveer Singh visited the Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Tuesday, where he offered prayers and performed rituals before Goddess Chamundeshwari in what is being seen as the conclusion of a controversy linked to his alleged mimicry of a sacred character during a public event. The actor’s visit drew attention as visuals of him participating in temple rituals quickly circulated on social media, marking a significant public moment in the resolution of the dispute.

The controversy originated during an international film festival in Goa a few months ago, where Ranveer  reportedly mimicked a revered “daiva” character associated with the film Kantara while interacting on stage with actor Rishab Shetty. The act was widely criticised by sections of the public, who considered it disrespectful to religious sentiments. Reports stated that despite being asked to stop during the interaction, the actor allegedly continued the mimicry, triggering further backlash and calls for legal action.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed alleging that the act had hurt religious sentiments, leading to legal proceedings in the Karnataka High Court. Although Ranveer issued an apology shortly after the controversy erupted, the court reportedly observed that his conduct was inappropriate. The legal process continued for several months, with the matter drawing significant public and media attention across Karnataka and other parts of the country.

The Karnataka High Court later quashed the FIR against the actor after he formally tendered an apology before the court. As part of the resolution, the court directed him to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple within a specified timeframe and seek forgiveness. Tuesday’s temple visit is understood to be in compliance with this judicial direction, effectively bringing closure to the legal proceedings surrounding the case.

During his visit, the actor reportedly entered the sanctum sanctorum, performed a special puja, and offered prayers before the deity. Sources indicated that he also took certain vows during the ritual, although official details were not disclosed. Temple authorities and devotees witnessed the visit, while images and videos of the actor participating in the rituals were widely shared online, further amplifying public interest in the development.

The episode has also reignited discussions in entertainment circles, especially amid ongoing speculation around Ranveer’s professional commitments, including reports of industry tensions and project uncertainties. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding any restrictions or bans. With the temple visit now completed, the matter is largely viewed as legally resolved, though it continues to remain a subject of public discourse due to its cultural and emotional sensitivity.
