Rakhee Gulzar Backs Aamir Khan, Questions Criticism Over Marrying At 60
Veteran actor questions criticism surrounding marriage later in life.
Veteran actress Rakhee Gulzar has voiced support for actor Aamir Khan amid discussions surrounding reports of his upcoming marriage to longtime partner Gauri Spratt. Responding to criticism over Aamir's reported decision to marry at the age of 60, Rakhee said there is nothing unusual about finding happiness and companionship later in life, adding that age should never be a barrier to marriage.
Speaking to Variety India, Rakhee dismissed concerns about Aamir marrying for a third time and pointed to international examples to support her view. She cited actor Robert De Niro, who welcomed a child in his later years, to argue that relationships and family life are not defined by age. “What is wrong with marrying at 60? Happiness in a marriage is not about age. I got married when Gulzar was almost 40,” she said.
Reports suggest that Aamir, who was previously married to Reena Dutta and later to Kiran Rao, is set to marry Gauri Spratt on July 5. The news has sparked debate on social media, with some users questioning whether marriage at an older age should be viewed differently. Rakhee's remarks have added a prominent voice in favour of the view that personal happiness should take precedence over societal expectations.

Rakhee also praised Aamir's character and highlighted the cordial relationships he has maintained with his former spouses after their marriages ended. Although she said she has not worked with Aamir and does not closely follow developments in the film industry, she described him as a sincere person. She added that his continued friendship with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao reflects positively on his personality and values.
Public interest in Aamir's relationship with Gauri increased earlier this year when the actor introduced her to members of the media during an interaction held on his 60th birthday. During the event, Aamir revealed that he and Gauri had first met 25 years ago and had been in a committed relationship for around a year and a half. He described their bond as serious and said they were partners.
Aamir also shared details about Gauri's background, saying that she works in production and is originally from Bengaluru, where she spent most of her life. He revealed that he had introduced her to fellow actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and spoke warmly about their relationship. As reports of their wedding continue to attract attention, Rakhee's comments have reinforced the idea that companionship and commitment can be embraced at any stage of life.
